Today was a good music day for me.
The new Franz Ferdinand sounds like Oingo Boingo, but in a good way.
The new Kings of Leon doesn’t suck. It actually has a bit more of a rootsy feel harkening back to their first album, and Caleb Followhill’s voice has never sounded better. Yes, they seem like a bunch of a-holes personally, but you gotta admit that they’re doing something pretty unique among rock bands right now (namely, actually rocking in the classic rock sense, including some pretty killer guitar solos).
And, to cap it off, the new Said The Whale album is absolute pop perfection. As in, so good that I had to immediately listen to it a second time. I Love You is my favourite song of the year by far, and the entire album is a masterpiece of catchy pop-rock mixed with Beach Boys-style mellowness and happy harmonies. Truly fantastic.
So, go 2013! You may be a better year for music than I was expecting based on the year so far. And the new Arcade Fire isn’t even out yet!
